Bypolls to two Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh and one seat in Punjab along with seven Assembly seats are being held today.
The Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh are Azamgarh, Rampur and the seat in Punjab going to the polls is Sangrur.
The Azamgarh seat fell vacant when Samajwadi Party (SP) stalwart Azam Khan preferred his state Assembly seat which he won in the recently held elections to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
Rampur is the seat that was held SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. He too gave up the seat after being elected to the UP Assembly in the recent elections.
The lone seat going to the polls in Punjab was vacated by chief minister Bhagwant Mann on being chosen to head the government in the state.
Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar Assembly constituency is witnessing a bypoll as result of the election of sitting MLA Raghav Chadha resigning after being elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Atmakur in Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a by poll as result of the death of the sitting MLA Medapati Goutham Reddy of the YSRCP.
In Tripura, Surma and Jubarajnagar go to the polls today. The Surma MLA Ashish Das was disqualified after he resigned due to allegations of misconduct, while the Jubarajnagar polls is because of the death of sitting MLA Ramesh Chandra.
The other seats going to the polls in the State are Town Badrowali and Agartala. In the former the MLA Ashish Saha required, while in the latter MLA Sudip Roy Barman resigned.
People in Jharkhand’s Mandar are also heading to the hustings as the MLA from the constituency Bandhu Tirkey was disqualified as a result of a corruption case being filed on him.
