The Bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar soon after the lower house assembled after it was adjourned till 12 pm when the session began. The Bill was then passed in the House amid Opposition to allow for a discussion.
Earlier on Monday, Congress MP Manickam Tagore gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha for a discussion asking for the government to initiate repealing of three farm laws. He wanted the government to announce compensation for the families of farmers who had died during the agitation against the farm laws.
The Congress has issued a three-line whip to its MPs asking them to be present in both the Houses of the Parliament today.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has also issued a three-line whip to its Rajya Sabha MPs asking them to be present in the House today.
The Rajya Sabha will take up the Bill now that it has been passed by the Lok Sabha.
