Pawar includes firebrand Sonia Doohan in all-powerful NCP working committee

NCP youth wing chief Dheeraj Sharma has also been included in the working committee.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar has reconstituted the party’s working committee, including young leaders such as Sonia Doohan, in line with his commitment to give primacy to the youth in the organisation and also in ticket selection for all elections across the country.
Doohan, 30, will continue to be the head of the NCP’s students wing and also one of the party spokespersons.
Along with Doohan, NCP youth wing chief Dheeraj Sharma has also been included in the working committee.
Addressing the party’s eighth convention in Delhi on September 11, Pawar had asserted that youth will be given preference in the organisation and also while selecting candidates for elections, including city corporations, zilla parishads and panchayat samitis.
He had praised both Doohan and Sharma for the well-organised convention in Delhi, a first in the national capital since the NCP was founded in 1999.
Doohan, a firebrand young leader who hails from Haryana, shot to limelight when she rescued four NCP legislators from a resort in Gurgaon on the outskirts of Delhi in 2019 when Ajit Pawar tried to stage a coup within the party by joining hands with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis to form a government that lasted just some hours.
She tried to repeat the act in July this year by trying to bring back the rebel Shiv Sena legislators from a Goa resort. She was later arrested by the Goa police for allegedly impersonating another person to stay in the same hotel. A local court later granted her bail.
