Saharanpur Nagar, as the name suggests is an Assembly constituency in Saharanpur district in western Uttar Pradesh. It is also a segment in the Saharanpur Lok Sabha constituency. The Assembly constituency came in existence after the 2008 Delimitation exercise and so went to the polls in the 2012 elections.
The first two terms, that is, in 2012 and in 2014, Bharatiya Janata Party candidates won from the constituency, however, in 2017, Sanjay Garg of the Samajwadi Party was declared winner from here.
Sanjay Garg is a candidate in 2022, but is contesting on a SP ticket. Rajiv Gumbar, who won the seat in 2014 for the party, is the BJP’s choice this time.
The Indian National Congress has Sukhwinder Kaur as its candidates, while the BJP contestant is Manish Arora.
The constituency is a segment in the Saharanpur Lok Sabha constituency. The other segments in the constituency are Behat, Saharanpur, Deoband, and Rampur Maniharan.
